Man faces criminal allegations for assault and property damage

In Manassas, there are often unusual criminal allegations that result in people being arrested and faced a litany of charges. Not every case is the same, though, which is why it is important for those who are charged to understand their rights and how to build a strong criminal defense. Some of the most complicated cases involve domestic disputes that spiral out of control, involve other people who had nothing to do with the situation, and escalate into property damage. For those dealing with police investigations into their behavior and an arrest, it is critical to call for a defense attorney immediately.

A 38-year-old man may need to do so after he was arrested on several charges related to alleged violent incidents involving a woman. In November, the man had gone to a vehicle repair shop to confront a 25-year-old woman with whom he had had a domestic incident the previous day. She had driven to the shop to fix damage that had occurred during the incident. The man is an acquaintance of hers. Allegedly, when she drove in, the man pulled his vehicle in behind hers and rear-ended it repeatedly. He then fled.

After he returned, a 55-year-old man who is related to the woman attempted to intervene. Police claim the man then grabbed her relative and smashed his head into the vehicle's rear windshield. The relative suffered injuries to his face. The man again took off. Officers secured warrants for his arrest and he was finally caught and brought in. He is charged with malicious wounding, attempted wounding, and domestic assault and battery.

Although violence is a major problem in society and those charged with domestic assault and other violent acts will automatically be stigmatized, it is still important to lodge a strong defense against these charges. Perhaps the case was a matter of self-defense or there is a rational explanation for what happened. Maybe the events didn't even occur as recounted. This is possible even in cases that the acts appear to be egregious and a person's guilt looks obvious. A law firm that has experience in representing people who are confronted with criminal charges for domestic disputes and assault may be able to assist in building compelling defenses. Perhaps plea bargains or an acquittal can be achieved. Calling for help is the first step and should not be ignored.
