Virginia woman faces multiple drug charges after traffic stop

Being stopped by law enforcement is anything bet enjoyable by motorists, however, traffic stops can occur for many reasons. Whether it is a minor or major infraction, a traffic stop could lead to officers investigating a driver for more than what the driver was stopped for. Therefore, it is important to consider a defense process that can help address any and all criminal charges he or she is facing due to a traffic stop.

A Virginia woman was recently arrested following a traffic stop. Reports indicated that the woman attempted to flee from police during the traffic stop. Apparently, the woman was stopped for an equipment violation. During the stop, the officer claimed that he detected an odor of marijuana coming form the vehicle.

Police began a search of the vehicle, which is when the woman supposedly attempted to run from police. She was then apprehended and placed under arrest. The search of the vehicle resumed, resulting in officers allegedly uncovering scales, plastic bags, unused needles and a needle containing a black substance. Apparently, some of the plastic bags contained a white crystal substance, which was field-tested and was positive for methamphetamine. Another plastic bag contained marijuana.

Following the arrest, the suspect gave a false name with a false birth date. When given the proper identification information, officers found that she had two warrants out for her arrest. She was then charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possessing with the intent to manufacture, sell or distribute a controlled substance, giving false identification to a law enforcement officer, possession of controlled paraphernalia and fleeing from law enforcement.

Facing multiple drug crimes can be a serious and complex matter. Therefore, defendants should take the time to explore their situation, determining the best defense route for them. A criminal defense is the best way to have the charges reduced or dismissed against them.
